Well, I guess this counts as my first official entry. Not a whole lot of time to get into why on earth I started this silly little thing, because I have lots of biz-related email to reply to, but I feel the need to write about the tragedy of those children in Texas who were drowned by their mother. According to the papers, she was suffering from Post-partum Depression, homeschooled, and was probably very isolated.
It's been a hot topic on the AP list. One some level, we can all identify with feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, and on the verge of a breakdown. Obviously, we're also having a tough time imagining what an effort she had to have made to do what she did. She had to bring each child into the bathroom, hold them under, and wait until they stopped moving; then she carried them to a bedroom, lay them down on a bed and covered them with a blanket. The 7-year-old found her in the bathroom with the baby, Mary, and asked "What's wrong with Mary?" Then she actually had to chase him through the house; it's tragic that as an active 7-year-old boy he wasn't able to run fast enough to escape through a door or window.
I've been reading everyone's posts but have yet to really post an opinion. It's been difficult just thinking about it, and I suppose that this is my way of dealing with it--to just avoid it all together. However tragic and sad, the one thing that should comfort us all about this story is knowing that these five precious babies are in Heaven now.
